My roots are planted deep in McHenry County.
My husband Carl and I chose to live here for the past 34 years because - like you - we’ve always loved the friendly and unique communities and the easy access to wide-open spaces that make McHenry County a great place to live, work, play, raise a family or run a business.
As our county grows, I'll continue to promote development of a vibrant, sustainable economy that reduces our property tax burden while preserving the quality of life we value so much.
We raised our three sons - now all adults - right here.
While they were growing up, I contributed to the community by volunteering in the local schools for many years. I then applied my appreciation of the natural world through several roles with the McHenry County Conservation District, monitoring District sites, participating in native plant seed collection efforts, and finally serving as a Trustee on the District’s board for almost five years.
As board members, we worked together in a non-partisan and fiscally responsible way to guide the District’s direction. And I worked hard to build and maintain community support for the District among McHenry County residents, business leaders, and government officials.
My efforts as a McHenry County Conservation District Trustee resulted in statewide recognition…
with a Master Board Member Award from the Illinois Association of Park Districts.
"Master Board Members have gone above and beyond the call of duty in their leadership roles," said Peter Murphy, association's president and chief executive officer. "Those who reach this highest level of the Board Member Development Program are extremely involved at the local level, and they are outstanding proponents of enhancing the quality of life in Illinois through the services of park districts, forest preserves, conservation, recreation, and special recreation agencies."

All of these experiences provided insight into opportunities and challenges associated with different aspects of life in McHenry County.
And, when combined with my professional work in public finance and administration, they provided the elements for a great fit when a vacancy on the McHenry County Board occurred earlier this year.
Chairman Buehler nominates Carolyn
Campbell to fill County Board vacancy
WOODSTOCK. Ill. - McHenry County Board Chairman Michael Buehler has nominated Carolyn Campbell to fill the vacancy in County Board District 2.
"Carolyn Campbell has repeatedly demonstrated her commitment to McHenry County through her public service and volunteer work, and her knowledge of government finance,” Buehler, R-Crystal Lake, said. "Her balance of knowledge of government management and her passion for volunteering will make her a great new addition to the County Board.”

Following the vote on Wednesday, County Board member Kelli Wegener, D-Crystal Lake, said Campbell was a "wonderful candidate" who has a lot of experience and a passion for learning. "[Campbell] seemed to rise above the rest [of the candidates]," Wegener said.

Two months later, here’s what the County Board Chairman had to say about me, my time on the Conservation District Board, and my performance as a McHenry County Board Member:
"The County Board is responsible for approving the Conservation District's annual budget, and as Chairman it is my job to nominate appointments to its Board of Trustees, which must be approved by the full County Board. We'll be doing that again shortly, as one of your former trustees, Carolyn Campbell, so impressed us that we selected her to fill a vacancy on our County Board."

Create a vibrant, sustainable economy as a primary way to reduce our property tax burden
Promote manufacturing, industrial, and business development that’s relevant to local and regional markets
Encourage business practices that expand markets to a global scale
Provide educational and training opportunities that help our local workforce thrive
Support local business development of eco-cycle services
Promote our natural, agricultural, and cultural heritage as a revenue-producing destination economy
Partner with local and state agencies to expand tourism opportunities
Develop a viable, forward-looking transportation system to relieve congestion and enhance mobility for residents and visitors
